Hello there! My best wishes for a wonderful Christmas Eve Day. I hope you enjoy the time filled with family, friends, good food, laughter and a few perfect presents. As I mentioned yesterday, today I wanted to share my travel essentials for another round of WIAW.
The key with traveling anywhere is being prepared. I have had many trips where I have searched the airport high and low for a healthy meal. Often times there are none to be found. Depending on the situation, you cannot always have the perfect stash of snacks in your purse. However, I did really well this time! I hope some of my ideas can inspire you the next time you are going up, up and away!
What I Ate Monday Wednesday
The fact that our flight was a little later helped to keep my morning routine fairly consistent. I enjoyed a cup of coffee when I woke up and did some work for the blog. When I was hungry, I whipped up one of my standard breakfast meals. Three pasture raised eggs, Kerrygold butter and Ezekiel toast. Quite a few supplements in the background to be prepared for our trip! I am so hot and cold with taking my vitamins when traveling. I will either pack up everything with extra care or sometimes just grab a multi-vitamin tablet to take daily.
I rushed to get ready and head out for a doctor’s appointment so that I could get back to the apartment and finish packing and such before heading out to the airport. I had hoped to have more time when I got back, however, there was more traffic than I had anticipated. I grabbed a handful of almonds as a late-morning snack and pulled myself together to do a quick training session.
Scott and I headed to the garage and did separate workouts in the gym to get a little blood flowing before our flight. I really liked the full body circuit I put together. It was challenging, and I plan to share it in a post once we get back to Austin.
After a quick shower and changing into real clothes we got our food for the day together. I sipped a small protein shake and snagged a selfie as we hustled around the kitchen.
We packed salads as well as this “emergency bag” of snacks which held a ton of clean eating fuel. Walnuts, banana chips, pumpkin seeds, apple & pear slices and Kind Bars. Of course, it did take some time to put all these items together. However when were hanging around the airport it was completely worth it. Word to the wise, yogurt is not an option. I had a Greek yogurt snagged by security on one trip. Apparently it is considered an oversized liquid. Who knew?
After we went through security we picked up a couple of bottles of water and found a table to eat lunch. The Austin airport is a little like a movie set. It is small and all of the cafes and shops are quaint. They also have more healthy options than any airport I have ever seen. It has a hefty price tag of $6.99, but you can even buy a Kombucha if the mood strikes.
Once we finished our salads, I grabbed a few pears slices for something sweet.
We hung out for a bit and grabbed coffees before heading to our gate. I charged my laptop and phone and awaited a flight update…
We finally boarded! Granted we waited a while on the plane before we took off, but I was content grabbing my Kindle to finish “The Secret” and noshing on a Kind Bar.
After we landed we waited to get our bags by the baggage claim. I grabbed a few more apple slices from our stash while Scott convinced me to play a game of “I Spy.” A wash of relief comes over me whenever I see my suitcase about to roll down the turnstile. This trip was no exception.
It was pretty late by the time we made it to Scott’s parents house (around 10pm). However, we had not eaten much since lunch and decided to go with a late dinner. Scott’s mom had prepped most of the food before coming to pick us up. We were pretty fortunate to have a hot meal on the table for us within minutes. Dinner consisted of wild-caught salmon, a sweet potato and sautéed mixed greens.
No dessert, no extras – we were all very tired at this point so we headed to get settled and get to bed as soon as possible.
