Stress & Sleep Test Results with EverlyWell
Busy Times = Stress
It seems appropriate to be typing this post up the week that I’m moving. October was a busy and exciting month for me. I celebrated my birthday, got engaged (such a surprise!) and decided to launch my 2nd challenge through my health and fitness brand – The Bikini Experiment. Lots going on as usual! Exciting (yes)…stressful (yes, that too)…
As I shared here and here I partnered with EverlyWell and FitApproach this Fall to try out their Sleep and Stress Test. If you are not familiar with EverlyWell it is a company that offers affordable at home testing with results and knowledge you can actually understand. The results are quickly emailed once they process your test and there are a lot of resources provided to help you gain further insight.
Sleep & Stress Test
The testing itself was super easy. I had to take urine samples at different intervals throughout the day. I chose a day when I was going to be home to make it all as seamless as possible. I then sent in my package and awaited my results.
Many issues with stress and sleep are demonstrated by, and can be contributed to, the primary sleep and stress hormones, cortisol and melatonin respectively. Examining these throughout the day, and how they relate to each other, can offer insights in abnormalities in stress and sleep patterns. (Source, EverlyWell)
About a week or so after my package arrived an email popped up in my in-box that my results were ready. It was confirmed all of my samples were adequate to perform the test as well since that was definitely something that crossed my mind when I sent them in for processing.
Hormone Levels & Risk Scale
To make the results very clear the four different hormones are broken down with three levels of a risk scale.
- Within Reference Range (Blue)
- Outside Reference Range (Yellow)
- High Risk (Red)
Four Hormones Tested
My Test Results
The Creatinine confirmed that my samples were adequate for accurate testing. However, the Cortisol and Cortisone were very high during the day. The fact that it started very early in the morning showed that I was waking up in a high state of stress due to the fact that I struggle to get a good night’s sleep. My Melatonin was also low at night. In short, my levels were a bit all over the place and in the high risk category way too many times.
So you may wonder what my plan might be to get this to a better place. I am considering trying a supplement to get those levels in check.
The email also provided information on the sleep cycle and ways to reduce stress. The test confirmed my suspicions and I am definitely going to concentrate on stress reduction and sleep more in my personal approach to health. Daily walks have been a huge help to me. It’s important for all of us to find what works best for us and make sure we do it without fail.
