“Elegance does not consist in putting on a new dress”…Coco Chanel
Happy Monday! This new installment of Shopping in My Closet is focused on the winter coat. Yes, the winter coat, but three different ways. I think we all fall in the trap right about now where we are bored to tears with our winter wardrobe. The winter coat is especially tiresome since it gets the most amount of wear. It is cold, downright frigid, in many areas right now. We often cling to the winter coat like a life raft. Most people own coats that are neutral colors such as gray, black or tan. No color allowed! In an effort to be practical we pick those basic colors because it will “go” with the most clothing. My secret when it comes to changing up my look is the variety found in my accessories.
You are not going to find a new coat this time of year anyway. Fashion brands are light years ahead of us, and the good coats were nowhere to be found by Thanksgiving. So make the most of what you got and play along! I am sure with a little imagination you will remember some extras in the back of your closet too.
Shopping in My Closet #2
Houndstooth Scarf – Ann Taylor
Black Leather Gloves – Michael Kors
Black Cap – August
I happen to be a little partial to coordination, and that is why black and white reigns supreme here. I think it is just enough to mix it up without being an overwhelming mix of color. Everyone usually has a hat that they often forget to wear. Plus, we are so in the habit of sticking our gloves in our pockets that we never think to pull out a different pair. Simply mix it up! A cap is also a fun piece that keeps you extra warm and can often look quite stylish. It can be a bit of a savior if you have to go out on a bad hair day. A girlfriend calls you to go out for an impromptu cocktail? Go with a hat.
These gloves are noteworthy because they were a splurge item, but I have had them for years. They are quilted and have a buckle. I love all the little enhancements to the texture. When you do shop for things it is important to go with those touches that make things a little different. You want to still be excited to wear things season after season and not just want to donate them to goodwill. Some items are meant to be cherished longer. You just have to decide if that way of thinking fits your current budget or not.
Striped Infinity Scarf – Loft
Gray Leather Gloves – Banana Republic
There are so many types of scarves out there! I own a variety of scarves and feel they can really pull a look together by adding a nice flourish. They are not expensive and variety is key. This is an older one from the Loft. There was a Loft near my last job and it was an endless source of trouble for me. The accessory sale always got me. It felt like a small purchase so I would simply buy more. I am pretty sure they design it to be that way.
Gloves that coordinate with you coat always give a nice and clean line. I am a huge fan of these gray leather ones and probably wear them the most of all.
Gloves – Collection 59
Blue Scarf – Madewell
Is it blue or is it purple? I cannot decide, but this is one of the softest scarves I own. It looks amazing with denim too! Since it is longer in length it can be worn in a variety of ways. I have a boatload of scarves from Madewell since my sister worked there for several years. This how we met Lauren from Be Lovely! Have you noticed a theme with scarf buying addiction? Again, I do have my favorites that I wear time and time again. You do not need to own a store, but just a few to jazz up your look is always welcome. The gloves? Opera length. Roll up your coat sleeves, and it will make your appearance look a little different. Trust me.
Hope you enjoyed a little Shopping in My Closet. You almost can forget some of those pieces that get buried that you forget your own. The whole process is fun that way.
Have a great day! I will see you here tomorrow morning with a stretching routine that will be awesome to add to your morning start or as part of a workout. Until then style it up, and rock that winter coat.
Question of the Day: Are you bored of your winter coat? How do you jazz it up to make it through to Spring?
