Poppyseed Apple Cabbage Salad
Memorial Day is around the corner folks! We all think of the healthy goodies when it comes to Summer, right? Exotic fruits and veggies! Salads galore! But there is often a few sticky spots when it comes to all holidays. Summer is grilling season, but that can mean lots of slaws dripping in mayo or potato chips galore. There’s marshmallows by a fire and ice cream trips. All good stuff and part of living life! Embracing the healthy side takes a little of discipline and balance. I always recommend keeping some dishes healthy and bringing one with you to any kind of party or get together.
Eat Your Way Fit
That’s the philosophy here at The Bikini Experiment! Finding the right foods to fuel you is the answer to getting the lean look you desire. It does not mean eating tiny portions or depriving yourself all the time. It’s about choices.
The more you choose the healthy foods the more you start to crave them. Seriously! If I have a long stretch without a good salad that will start to come on my radar. There was once a time when I did not think I could ever live without doughy white bread like baguettes and bagels. Sure, I could eat them, but rarely think of it. Plus there are so many healthy foods out there that pay me back. So naturally I choose to focus on those nutrient dense choices. Win-win.
Add the Flavor
So many times people craft the perfect salad. Healthy veggies, some fruits and even protein and healthy fats. Then they whip out the bottle of salad dressing and I want to cry – no! You’re ruining it.
Focus your salad dressings on olive oil, vinegar and various spices to keep it fun and interesting. During the Summer lemons and limes are plentiful so I’ll choose those to add my dash of flavor. You want your dressing to be natural. Like not eating the bread you gradually begin to make those better choices as it becomes a habit.
Really? Why you might ask. Because they are better for you and your body will start to want those things. Trust me!
