Apparently I have been living under a rock a bit these days because I realized the other day that I had not heard of the 100 Happy Days phenomenon. When I go on Instagram I see a lot of people hashtag 100 Happy Days, but I did not realize that it was a concept you could start and apply at any time. Since one of my goals for the month of September was to practice daily gratitude I thought this would be a perfect way to comply.
I am a little sporadic in my practice, but I think sitting down and taking a few minutes to consider what you want to accomplish for the month is really important. We all have goals we are working towards and writing them down serves as a good reminder and also helps us to streamline. For instance, if once of your goals is to find time to workout or spend more time with your loved ones than perhaps it is not the time to ramp up at work with extra projects. There has to be a little give and take.
I believe gratitude is extremely important. It reminds us of all of our blessings, but it also has a way of shifting our thinking. By actively practicing gratitude we start to concentrate more of our focus on the good things and look at the “bright side.” It does not mean that everything will always be smooth sailing…quite the opposite in fact. However, I think it does teach us to roll with the punches more and to search out the silver lining. Happiness is a choice so actively finding ways to be happy will only lead to a better outlook on life.
I started Day 1 with one of my favorite quotes which is on my computer desktop. I love it – it is my personal mantra to always believe.
I woke up early to get a haircut this morning before getting ready to head back to Austin. Somehow I always feel like a model after I get my hair professionally done and wonder why I seem to lack the necessary skills to replicate the same finishing touch at home. Day 2 is already off to a good start…
If you want to see more please follow me on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter. I’ll also report back after I finish up this little happiness experiment in 100 days. 🙂
Question of the Day: What is one thing you are grateful for today?
