New Year’s Day. A fresh start. A new chapter in life waiting to be written. New questions to be asked, embraced, and loved. Answers to be discovered and then lived in this transformative year of delight and self-discovery. Today carve out a quiet interlude for yourself in which to dream, pen in hand. Only dreams give birth to change. – Sarah Ban Breathnach
Moving into 2015
Moving into 2015! I cannot believe a New Year is here. It is a new chapter that is inviting our participation. No doubt there will be transformation, challenges, highs and lows in the New Year ahead. For today, we can focus on our dreams and how to make those a reality. I always have slightly mixed feelings about New Year’s Eve and the hoopla that surrounds it as a holiday. It is fueled with some very intense pressure. I prefer to make it a low key event so that there are not too many expectations.
Similarly, I do not like making crazy New Year resolutions that set myself up for failure. There is nothing worse than making resolutions that are unrealistic and leave you feeling defeated. As I have mentioned on the blog before I am huge supporter of goal setting, and building habits to get to those outcomes.
I will be taking some time later in the day to write up some of the plans I am dreaming up for moving into 2015. Look for those goals on the blog next week! Scott and I always like to write down our goals and divide them into categories. It can be any way you want to set your intentions. What I do like about the passing of another year is that it always gives me a renewed sense of hope of what the future could be. As the year ebbs and flows it can be harder to hold on to that unbridled enthusiasm. All I can say is set realistic goals for yourself and put forth the desires you want to realize next year.
Starting a blog was one of my goals for this past year. Thank you to everyone who has followed my journey. I had a very slow start when I started to get all this going. I was very casual about the whole process and had no real schedule. I posted very randomly with some pretty awful pictures. Looking back my articles were not badly written, however, I had not really become comfortable with blog-style writing. However, it was a start.
It was a crazy year for me with a lot of change, and I had trouble building any real momentum. As I was preparing to move to Austin the habit fell off all together. I had a renewed energy in August, and even though I was a little embarrassed I took a breath and typed up a post that explained my disappearance. I knew I really wanted a blog to become part of my life, and I felt ready to truly take it on as a challenge.
I found starting a blog quite intimidating. I had tons of ideas spinning around in my head. Since I did not really organize my ideas or keep a calendar I would fall into a case of complete writer’s block when I sat down at my computer. Where were those great ideas? Articles I saw online about improving SEO and key widgets had the ability to give me a minor panic attack. How would I ever tackle all those things? It can be hard to sit behind your computer, and feel a little lost as to where to start. I am certainly not there yet, but at least I am more comfortable with the process. There is plenty I do not know and many things I would like to improve upon. Now, it does not make me so emotional. I simply add it to a future planning list and move on.
I am really grateful that I have a space where I get to share training, recipe and food ideas as well as bits and pieces of my life. When I want to investigate a health related topic or simply share what is going on in my head it is wonderful to write it all down and post it here.
