Happy Monday! How was your weekend? As I type up this post the Super Bowl Game is playing in the background in our living room. What an intense win! I must admit I usually watch the game for the highly anticipated commercials and the half time show. This year did not disappoint! I seriously loved Katy Perry’s performance.
Another activity I embarked on yesterday before half watching the game was the process of putting together Gym Bag Essentials.
Gym Bag Essentials
I will admit I have a total aversion to gym locker rooms. Even though I have had a gym membership for years I always try to avoid changing or getting ready there. Unfortunately, this is not really practical. Years ago I accepted that if I was going to get to the gym after work I would need to have a bag ready to go. I purchased a duffle bag at Target, and kept a change of clothes, my sneakers and a hair tie on hand for my evening workouts. We are talking bare bones my friends.
Fast forward a bit, and now I am hoping to fit in some of my scheduled workouts mid-day when I am working at the gym. Our locker rooms are very nice, but this process was a new one for me. Yesterday I took on the task of putting together the essentials I would need after a sweat session. My first plan of attack was writing down a list of everything I needed. I lucked out that I already had a lot of extras on hand which reduced my shopping list quite a bit. It is a bit of habit of mine to be well stocked when it comes to beauty supply products. I hate running out of things. My sister was quite sad the day we no longer lived together because she finally had to start going to CVS on her own. Yes, I had more than enough for both of us.
Gym showering and all that nonsense will not include washing my hair (at least for now). That would take all this to the next level! I do not wash my hair every day anyway, and it takes forever to blow it dry. In other words, I would disappear into the locker room and would not immerge until quite some time later. Some activates are better saved for at home. However, after years of working out frequently here at the items I knew would be crucial for gym bag essentials.
Unfortunately, my gym does not offer towels so that was the first thing I added to the mix. Flip flops had to go in there too because the last thing you want is to have your feet touch a shared locker space. The germs are just unfathomable. Yikes!
As I stared at the store shelves yesterday I drilled down to the basics. For my hair, I snagged a shower cap, dry shampoo, and a new hair brush and elastics. I already had one of my head bands at home to pack. Am I the only girl who uses a shower cap? Scott affectionately calls it my mushroom hat. Please tell me I am not alone on this one.
For shower purposes, I grabbed Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soap in Lavender (my favorite), Jason’s Body Cream and Thai Crystal Deodorant. I use this on a regular basis, and have no problems. I hope it stands the pressure of a more active job. Fingers crossed on that one. 🙂
Facial wipes from Burt’s Bees, an EOS lip balm and my lip gloss from Urban Decay seemed to fit the bill for a quick make up touch up.
A toothbrush and toothpaste may seem like slightly odd additions. I try to brush my teeth after lunch so I am sure I will be using it frequently. Lastly, my headphones are the last item in there because headphones are an easy thing to forget. I leave them in my pockets or my car frequently. Trying to get through a workout without music is no bueno.
So those are my gym bag essentials in a nut shell! Maybe some of the items I assembled together yesterday will be helpful for you too. Wish me luck this week as I brave the locker room! Have a great day – boys and girls. Linking up with Katie and Erin today.
Question(s) of the Day: What are you gym bag essentials? Do you use a shower cap??
