Hello! Hope your day is off to a good start. Yesterday was a super productive one for me, and I managed to get a lot of work accomplished. In the morning, I decided I was going to get out of my apartment to set up shop for the day. During my last job, I was often afforded the benefit of being able to work from home. It was a newer concept to me, and was amazing in many ways. I loved not having to get up and drive to work with the pressure of getting dressed up or dealing with traffic. I also did not have to pack my lunch either which was lovely. I could make whatever gosh darn thing I wanted when I got hungry. However, the downside was that there was incredible pressure to be available when I was working from home. If I missed a call or an instant message communication there was the perception that I was not working at all. Out of anxiety I stuck close to home to make myself as available as possible. What if I was driving to a Starbucks to get a change of scenery and I missed a message? Did I have to keep my computer on? It just seemed easier to stay put for the day.
Being home presents a myriad of distractions though, and at the time I thought it was because there were a lot of aspects of my job that I did not enjoy. However, it still happens now when I am home and try to write or work on the blog which I love doing. Whether it is a hang nail, laundry or dirty dishes in the sink you can bet I become totally distracted. Time gets away from you as one chore after another presents itself.
Green Juice, Projects & Monthly Goals
So yesterday I took to the road and decided to set up shop at Whole Foods for a few hours. How cool is this art dispenser? I certainly do not have any fun decorations like this at home. A repurposed cigarette machine…who would have thought this would ever come to be.
I headed to the juice bar and treated myself to a Super Greens Juice (Kale, Spinach, Lemon, Apple and Ginger) to keep me company.
I found a spot to settle into and took out my computer and note pad. I managed to get a lot of studying done for my Precision Nutrition Certification (yay!), and some writing for the blog.
As I was working through some projects, I also realized that it has been Fall for a full week now. In additional to the seasonal change, tomorrow is the first day of October. Yikes! Where does the time go? Since it is the end of the month, I thought I would look at my goals for September and evaluate how I did.
Be a Morning Person – This is actually working out much better than I expected. I have been getting up between 6:30 and 7:00 every morning. It still takes me a little while to get rolling, but I feel much more awake and productive in the mornings.
Go to Yoga 2x a Week – Also going really well. I already went to class once and sometimes twice so this was not a big deal. I made it a priority to check the yoga schedule at Lifetime early in the week and write it on the calendar. That is why habit building is so crucial, if you start small you can build without it being stressful.
Take fish oil supplements daily – This is getting better, but I will confess it took at least half the month for me to remember. I still forget a lot of days so I think I may be carrying this goal over to October.
Read one motivation business book – I read Build Your Blog by Gina Harney at The Fitnessista. In this department, I also did very well with Audible. I listened to both 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and Purple Cow which I recommend whole heartedly.
Practice daily gratitude – I am a quarter of the way through my happiness challenge:
I have not missed a day, but some days I am more motivated than others. Overall, it is fun and forces me to stay positive when life’s little annoyances could get in the way. My sister and I had a little confusion over the official hastag at first….but that got all sorted out.
Get More Sleep – So I have been doing well with getting up early, but not as well with going to bed early to balance it all out. I am slowly being forced to go to bed because I have started to get tired earlier, but I am surprised it has taken me more time to adjust than I thought it would. Sleep is such a battle for so many people that I guess it should not be a shock to me.
Cut Back on Coffee – I had cut all caffeine out of my life and it truly helped the headaches I had battled for years. However, I found I felt kind of fuzzy mentally in the mornings so I wanted to add a little back in. So now I am up to three large cold brews and a few iced green teas daily. I am not saying I want it out again, but I would like to scale back. Hmm….perhaps it is connected with not going to be early enough to make sure I get quality sleep.
Take fish oil supplements daily – Since my compliance was spotty at best in September I am keeping this one on the list…
Read one motivational/business book – I am really enjoying reading and learning new things. For me, the habit it still not entirely ingrained as a habit so this one is a repeat too.
Short walk daily – Now that the temperatures are dropping in Austin I want to make sure to get outside for a bit every day to enjoy the sunshine or find a new area of the city to walk around. On days I do not work out, I want to make sure I get some movement in too so this is the perfect solution.
