In fitness, we always focus on sharing our goals and talk about the intensity we need to crush them. There are countless quotes that I can think of when it comes to this type of motivation! Many are along the lines of “go big, or go home.” However, what about those times when you want to hang up that little sign that represents your own version of gone fishing? Feeling mentally, physically or emotionally worn out. Replenishing that store of energy and zest to set the world on fire feels beyond comprehension. Should you throw in the towel?
Fueling the Soul
Balance is important. However, it is about more than just enjoying a scoop of ice cream or a glass of wine as a treat. It is not even about whether you should skip your early morning yoga class in favor of extra shut eye. It is remembering that while we do all of this work it is always important to fuel the soul too. Depending on the season of our life this can change.
Fuel the Stores
When you feel like the well is starting to run dry it might be time to evaluate if you are regularly restoring that engine that is vital to fostering a positive mental outlook. Some things that help me? That extra hour of sleep, venturing out for coffee or even a long walk on a perfect day. Sometimes I take an hour to organize because it frees me of some mental clutter. These are simple tasks, but truly necessary. We cannot all be productive 24/7. You can try, but the well will run dry eventually There should be no guilt if your pleasure is an hour of truly bad television. Is three hours ok? Maybe, once in a while, but not on a regular basis. It is all about finding that sweet spot that is fuel for the soul. It serves as a little pick me up.
Time and Value
Time is our most valuable commodity, and there is indeed no known way to earn it back. Since we give it away we have to be choosy. It is like money. If I spend my time here, I will not have any to use here. Unfortunately it is a pretty basic equation. You have the ability to feel empowered that you can make these choices or fall victim to the belief that you have no control.
If you choose to read or spend an hour wandering the isles of Target do not worry that it is not a good use of your time. Instead, know that sometimes the soul needs these little intermissions to feel good. A little break to work on the next leg of the journey. In short – it is all ok.
When we are having our harder days extra TLC might be needed. We have to surrender and know that we will rebound.
Some days are about going all in, and others are about taking a deep long breathe. It is not lazy or unmotivated. Rememeber you are exactly where you need to be. Do not burn yourself out trying to beat the clock or get to your goal faster. As the famous saying goes sometimes it is the journey and not the destination that truly matters. Remember your why, savor it and move forward every day. Do not forget to fuel the soul during the process.
I always love hearing from you! If you have any questions please feel free to send me an email.
