Coffee Spills & Life Disasters
Here I was minding my own business one morning late week. The date and time you will see is completely irrelevant. I was engaged in one of my typical activities – drinking coffee and working on my laptop. All of a sudden the worst case scenario happened. The horror story we all dread. I moved my hand slightly, and my mason jar filled to the brim with coffee spilled over my entire laptop. I was shocked and in a state of disbelief. I NEVER break anything. My possessions typically last forever because I never do anything to compromise them. In short, this was a completely new scenario to me.
Stomp the Foot
I fully believed the laptop was recoverable, but as you may have guessed by now it was not. Sigh or stomp the foot all you like. Time to re-group. Time to re-direct. What next?
A Coffee Spill
Of course, a coffee spill is not the end of the world. It was frustrating and upsetting, but one of those life disasters that can happen to all of us. We can be as cautious and careful as possible, but sometimes those inevitable breakdowns occur. The perfect plans we have in place go helter skelter. I feel there are periods in our lives where it happens daily!
Ever want to get x,y and z accomplished only to be derailed by a cold, traffic or a delay at the airport? Sometimes all in the same day? I could go on and on with a detailed list. We have all been there. The best laid plans do not always come to pass. We know that a move or starting a new job will be stressful. We mentally and physically prepare for it. However, those unexpected life issues have a way of popping up at the worst of times.
Handling the Unexpected
I wish I could laugh these things off with a toss of my hair, but alas this is “not me” as the saying goes. Perhaps it is you, and I will say you are fortunate to be able handle this unexpected stress so well. Whether this is natural or not we have to stay calm. Life disasters require formulating a plan to manage the unexpected. The foot stomp will not get you nowhere.
Shrug it Off
The scale goes up and down. Workouts are missed. It is hard to not get tired after working late. Just when you think you are “in the groove” coffee spills find a way into the fold. When life derails you do not lose focus on where you want to go. You will still get there with consistent effort, but these hiccups will always pop up here and there. Try to shrug, let go, and plan the next step. Know that one way or another there is always a way to bounce back from any life disaster.
