Even if you are a devoted gym bunny there are days where the trek just isn’t going to happen. Or maybe the gym scene just isn’t your scene! I get it. We all have to get in our workouts in different ways! This resistance band workout is just the thing for your living room. You’ll need bands, a doorway, and you’ll be good to go!
Build Your Chest Resistance Band Workout
My favorite style of training is full body workouts. I believe they are absolutely the best way for women to get the results they want to see. However, there are times when I like to focus a little more attention on a particular area.
Building your chest isn’t just for the guys! As women we want that shape and definition that muscle provides us. Chest building exercises are great to give a natural lift and enhancement to the chest. Who couldn’t use a boost in that department?
If you have bands at home, but you aren’t sure what to do with them then you are in luck! Over the next few weeks I will be sharing exercises with a different body part focus. This workout is focused on building your chest. Plus any method of resistance trains burns calories AND increased muscle also increases our calorie burn too.
There are numerous ways to add resistance training into your fitness routine. The beauty of strength training is that you can customize it to your level of skill. If you are a beginner you’ll want to choose a light band to get started.
The genius is that you can very gradually make it more challenging. A few more reps or slight increases in resistance will help you work towards getting stronger.
This is the limitation with no equipment workouts. Yes, always feel free to bust out some squats or lunges. However, I know my full body weight is more than a pair of dumbbells. In a push ups, pull up, or any other bodyweight exercises we are essential lifting our own bodyweight. You need to be strong enough to do that! Exercises like this resistance band workout will help you get there.
Choosing Resistance Bands
Resistance bands are inexpensive, portable and versatile. You’ll be amazed at how many different exercises that you can do with them. Bands are great no matter your level of fitness because these exercises are low-impact. Easy on the joints movements have a low risk for injury.
But do not think for one minute this resistance band workout is easy! No way…this is a lot tougher than it looks. If is isn’t making challenging you then it’s time to get a stronger band.
These resistance band exercises are designed to build your chest and will be very effective:
- Horizontal Chest Press
- Horizontal Chest Fly
- Incline Chest Press
- Incline Chest Fly
- Decline Chest Press
- These are the top form cues I want you to keep in mind as you do these exercises:
- Posture is super important! Focus on keeping the shoulders down and away from your ears.
- Be aware if your rib cage is folded down. You don’t want to the rib cage to protrude or pop out.
- Tailbone must be kept tucked under you.
- Only take the band until you feel strong and comfortable so that you aren’t overextending in the exercise. Stop the press and the fly at your body.
- Focus on just the chest by flexing the muscles as you press or fly.
What makes the bikini look good is the strength underneath. We want to eat well to aid in that muscle building. It all comes together by making positive choices to work on our goals.
Coasting through a workout isn’t really helping you in the end. You will only be cheating yourself. So make sure to choose a band that has enough resistance. But don’t push yourself too hard to prove anything either. It’s all about slow and steady progress.
