I want you babes to be fully equipped! Let’s dive in and chat home gym things…
Best Home Gym Equipment for Your Workouts
If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram you already know I am a gym rat at heart. I love the escapist quality of disappearing into a dark gym for an hour. Plus, it makes me feel like a kid in a candy store. So much equipment to play and choose! The possibilities are endless – am I right?
Well even with all of my gym love I always have a few key pieces of home gym equipment ready to be used at any time on my living room floor. All of these things were featured in my Build Your Moves series and other TBE workouts as well.
Ultimate Home Gym
Many of you are working full time jobs, traveling and keeping up a busy social life. I totally get it! Sometimes the gym is just not feasible a few nights a week. But you still want to stay active and work towards your fitness goals.
There are so many reasons having home gym equipment available for you will pay you back in a huge way. If you have that rough day at work you can summon the energy for say a mini band workout or stability ball exercise. But a full trip to the gym? Not in the cards!
Small Gym Spaces
I live in a 1-bedroom apartment that I share with that cute trainer I’ve told you about before. I don’t know the exact square footage, but the storage space is on the minimal side. Scott is a master of organization and sometimes even he is stumped! As a result we have truly streamlined the home gym equipment we keep on hand.
All of this home gym equipment can easily be tucked away in the corner of your closet or under your bed. Always make it accessible so don’t have to go to great lengths to dig it on out for a workout! Because then, well, a workout just doesn’t happen.
Build Your Moves
The build your moves series walked you through how to start with the basics of weight training. So very important! To continue to reach your strength goals you need to add resistance and take your exercises further each time. We are talking more weight and reps each and every time!
We are all about shooting for next level here at The Bikini Experiment. These home gym equipment selections will be perfect to fit into your active and busy lifestyle! Creating a home gym doesn’t have to be hard or expensive.
Always, right? I believe dumbbells are the best way to get started with weight training and prepare yourself to move onto a barbell.
I recommend a lighter and heavier set so you have say 5lbs for bicep curls and 15 pounds for more lower body dominant moves.
Ok – the stability ball is probably the largest size piece! The stability ball works well in so many ways. It is a great stand-in for a bench (easier to store and much less expensive). It’s great to work the core and I’ve featured it in several past workouts:
These could pretty much fit in your pocket! For that reason, I often use them for travel. They are just so darn easy.
Mini bands are a great way to add resistance to any exercise. I often use them for walk outs and squats. I posted a full workout recently as well:
My affection for the ab mat is so strong I featured it in my low back AND ab crunch exercises. It’s crucial to work different angles of your abs to see results. A gym will naturally have more machines an options to let you do that. So a piece like the ab mat is a great resource!
I am a total sucker for ab equipment infomercials. I’m not sure where it disappeared to, but I even owned an ab roller for a while.
The ab wheel is quick, efficient and gets the job done. I definitely notice a difference in my abs if I use it regularly.
Not going to lie – these are actually furniture movers! They were cheaper at the time then gliders and basically the same concept. Although these gliders are super affordable. These gliders are an option or if you want to get really down and dirty you could use paper plates or even paper towels. Total creativity!
This recent workout featured gliders. And boy are they tough to use! Talk about intensity.
Another way to build up that strength! I like the comfort of using a med ball in exercises like the dead bug. It easily allows you to distribute the weight of the ball across your body. Even in a small space these are perfect for adding variety to your exercises. Highly recommend a medicine ball!
No need to spend a lot here. Although I do eye up those Lululemon Mats every time I go to the store!
A yoga mat is simply designed to add a cushioned layer between you and a hard word surface so even a basic yoga mat should meet your needs.
Foam Roll & Lacrosse Balls
It hurts so good right? A travel sized foam roll is an awesome option to keep storage to a minimum. I use mine daily along with lacrosse ball and baseball ball selections to work out all those knots and tight spots.
If you haven’t tried usually a ball in this way I highly recommend it!
And you should be all set!
Every piece of home gym equipment listed here is part of my Amazon Store. I have found Amazon to be an amazing resource for these types of purchases. So simple and easy!
