5 Reasons to Focus on Fitness! Of course, there are probably more than just 5….but here are the top ways I feel that fitness helps fuel a healthy and happy lifestyle. You need to move and groove on a daily basis – someway or somehow.
5 Reasons to Focus on Fitness
I have shared before that I did not grow up athletic. Quite the contrary I grew up completely sedentary and actually battled a weight problem when I was really young. Since I was not particularly fast or well coordinated sports scared me. I avoided them or any type of running whenever possible.
Fast forward many years later and I began to work out at a gym lifting weights and actually fell a little in love with the whole darn thing. Or…well, maybe I fell in love with my personal trainer and that pushed me long after the haze of being new to working out started to fade. It allowed me to continue to get training guidance after I could really afford to keep it going. I was just a regular working girl after all!
A few early sessions will only help you learn how to use some equipment. However, the process continues long after those early days. So what was it exactly that I fell in love with? Well. here are my 5 reasons to focus on fitness and the benefits it provides.
It is awesome to not get winded going up and down the stairs. I love being able to lift groceries even when the checker at the grocery store overpacks them. It’s awesome to feel like I can move and keep up with life’s challenges. Lifting things up and putting things down. Especially after a few moves over the past few years. I mean, it really is so simple. Unlike the dagger of fear that would go through my heart that I would not be able to keep up in middle school gym class. Shudder.
Strength in the gym translates to life outside of barbells and racks. Somehow learning your way around the big boys makes you feel tougher in real life. Feeling good about yourself translates to having a different view of the world. You can slay dragons anytime! Plus, being able to throw on a pair of jeans without fearing they will be too tight is priceless. A vacation around the corner is a source of excitement. Not scary because it involves a swimsuit.
It’s all a chain of events. Most people who workout usually sleep better. Better sleep helps you focus and perform better. Focus helps us be successful and accomplish what we set out to do. If it no coincidence that the majority of successful people keep up with a fitness routine on top of everything else they do. That time spent in a gym or on a workout holds incredible value. This means it is well worth the time and effort.
This is about health not bikinis. Although I think both are very much related. As we get older we lose bone mass. It’s part of the process. Maintaining and building muscle mass and tone is a huge way to fight off those larger battles later in life.
Sharing with Others
I started The Bikini Experiment because I wanted to share what had helped me with others. I felt it was so hard to navigate through the training information online to see what had value. The diet programs that offered so much promise were often very low in calories and nutrients. Not the type of eating that fuels tough workouts. Fitness is such a positive thing to share with others. Whether it be sharing what you know or simply what you love. It can be a true source of connection among us.
Discovering fitness can be an amazing way to fuel a positive life. It is not about seeking perfection. It’s all about the journey. Looking back I’m a little shocked at how much I have changed since I was that little girl. But I think she would be really proud of me now.
