5 Diet Tips for a Healthy Weekend
Diet Tips =Lifestyle
When I use the term diet I am referring to your lifestyle. Your daily meals, drinks and snacks. What you buy at the food store week in and week out. Isn’t it funny that most of us tend to eat so many of the same meals on repeat? When I received my health coaching certification from Precision Nutrition I was surprised that so much of the course information revolved around behavior. Here I was thinking it would be all about calories and macronutriets. However, many times our success with getting lean is not about our desire or our even knowledge. It’s about something very different all together – our habits.
Does this sound familiar to you? Maybe you meal prep your little heart out and take your lunch to work every day. You pack your gym bag and chug your water like a boss 5 days a week.
During the work week your are on fire. BUT what happens when that little thing called the weekend rolls around? Can you sustain your healthy habits through the end of the week chaos?
I am firm believer in living a life that fulfills all of our needs. Health and fitness are crucial. However going out, having fun and being social are all key to being happy. Here are 5 diet tips for a healthy weekend.
It’s Not All or Nothing
Go big or go home is not the mentality to embrace here. If you decide to go all out it will take you a few days to recover. Then you will almost be at the weekend again. Decide what’s important to you. Maybe you really want dessert or fries so decide on one or the other. So indulge in those things and move on. It’s a treat so enjoy it. This why I am not a fan at all of cheat days. I think it is so much kinder to your body to indulge a few cravings rather than to deprive yourself all week for one big day.
Where Does Alcohol Fit?
So many social celebrations includes drinks or cocktails of some kind. Am I right? Weddings, parties, bridal showers – you name it there’s something brewing behind the bar. But always everything in moderation. I recommend setting a limit for the event and alternating non-alcoholic beverages in between. Keep the drinking light during the week so you can enjoy a drink or two at a dinner out or party. Being smart is about planning ahead and surviving the next weekend.
Between working behind desks and driving commutes it can sometimes feel like we are alway sitting! If you take a day off from working out be sure to take a walk or hike or try a new class for fun. I love Barre3 or restorative yoga.
Sometimes it’s good to enjoy seasonal activities like ice skating or swimming. Just keep moving and grooving! An object in motion stays in motion.
Even with all this frivolity make sure to grocery shop and prepare a few things on Sunday so you can have a strong start to the week. Check out these meal prep tips for keeping it simple.
Relaxing and enjoying our lives is never a bad thing. It often fuels us to eat better and push ourselves harder at the gym. Just don’t over do it! All the best diet tips in the world can’t combat stress.
Wishing you a happy and relaxing weekend filled with your favorite things!
