Another weekend, another storm upon us! Enough already…I am hopeful this will be the end of the bad winter weather. A girl can dream right? Last night was the coldest night of the year, and I definitely felt the chill. I really love sharing a few of my favorite things on Fridays with you guys. Not only do I just like to share information, but it reminds me of positive things – big and small that pop up through the week.
2/28: Friday’s Favorite Things
Country Music – I have always liked country music, but I have become more and more enchanted with it over the past year or so. I recently took a few minutes to set up a country music favorites list on my iPod. I am sure this does not sound like a big deal, but sometimes I delay updating my iPod so long that it becomes more of a project than an update! A few of those favorites include “Springsteen” by Eric Church, “Dirt Road Anthem” by Jason Aldean and the new duet “We Were Us” featuring Miranda Lambert & Keith Urban.
The Principal of the Path – I had recently started attending a local church and they were giving a lecture on this book. I had not heard of Andy Stanley who is a famous preacher from Georgia. Though parts of the book did not really resonate with me – it was its core message that struck a cord. It is in fact your path and your actions that really dictate your direction in life rather than your intentions or desires. For example, if your goal is to save money, but you are spending beyond your means you will end up with debt and not a nest egg. Pretty simple but all of our lives can sometimes spin out of control when we forget that mindset when it comes to money, family, career, relationships and personal goals.
Sweet Potato Fries – I used to buy frozen sweet potato fries all the time. As I recall the ingredient list was not too bad and I baked them in the oven so they were fairly healthy. Then I discovered how easy and quick it is to make your own. I simply slice a sweet potato and put it on a baking tray in a baking pan and spray with coconut oil. I then top with All Spice, Cinnamon and Himalayan Sea Salt. They go in the oven for a half hour at 400 degrees and then you can eat immediately. They’re delicious and actually a lot cheaper than the frozen variety too.
Upside Down Apple Bread – I made Gina’s recipe earlier this week, and it was so good. It’s grain-free, paleo friendly and was very quick to assemble. It could either be a snack on its own or a little dessert after lunch or dinner.
Spinning Class – I haven’t been to a spinning class in months, but I always like it to switch up my cardio routine and get the energy of being in a class. I attended one this week and it was fun to simply follow along and enjoy the ride! Gosh…how cheesy was that?
Zoya Nail Polish – Can nail polish be an addiction? I think it’s possible. I have recently really been enjoying the Zoya brand. The colors are fantastic! My manicure does not last a full week, but I find most polish gets chipped in a few days. I look at it as an excuse to change my colors more often.
That was fun! I’m off to Friday’s yoga class and the library for a book pick up. I was never really a library girl, but it seemed like an easy way to cut back and save a little bit of money. The library is close by and I find I really like it. It’s free, puts a time limit on how long it can take for me to finish a book and there is no clutter once I finish reading. Not too shabby.
