TGIF…for those of us on the East Coast we are hopefully getting to enjoy some warmer weather this upcoming weekend. It’s a constant topic of conversation, but it really has been THAT BAD this winter. I have actually been managing ok up until now, but I am sick of looking at gray and dreary skies and worrying about falling on ice. It’s all very stressful! The salt shortage, the driving – enough already! Well, below are a few things that are making me smile this week and helping me to overcome my own symptoms of seasonal deficit disorder.
The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon – Admittedly I have been staying up a little too late past my bedtime since I have not had a 9-5 job to get up for in the morning. I have been getting sucked into the Olypmics which leads to those weather updates on the news, and then the final destination this week has been the Tonight Show.
I was never really a huge fan before and would only catch it if a favorite celebrity happened to be a guest. I enjoy the modesty of Jimmy Fallon and the humor he displays through some hilarious skits. Last night, Will Farrell was doing interpretive dance to the Downton Abby theme song and I was dying laughing. I do want to get back to my earlier bedtime so this show has been added to my DVR rotation.
Women’s Health Magazine – I can run hot and cold with my magazine subscriptions. I will clip recipes to try and tear out workouts to do and it never happens. I will sadly admit that sometimes I thumb through and claim that I will go back to the articles but never do. This is why I have a stash of magazines from the past two years that I always believe I will go back to. This month’s women’s health was an exception for me and I read it pretty much cover to cover. Yes, this is the one with the gorgeous Heidi Klum gracing the front cover.
As someone who is in a bit of career flux at the moment I loved the article “Rise of the Second-Act Career.” Amazingly enough I am not the only person in the world who does not have everything figured out. Lot of people are and have been in my shoes which is good to know. Women’s Health always includes articles dedicated to career and life situations which I totally agree with because mental health is a large part of living a healthy lifestyle too.
Paleo Egg Cups – Simple recipes are where it is at for me. These are absolutely great for any meal and I have enjoyed them for lunch a lot recently. These are totally quick and easy with almost no preparation. All you need to make these is eggs and the bacon of your choice. Use cooking spray to prep a muffin tin and then line it with the bacon and break the egg into it. These should then be baked for 10-15 minutes depending on the degree that you want your yolk solidified. I served them on a bed of arugula to get some greens and make it more filling.
Bulletproof Radio – Anyone out there like podcasts? Well I discovered them over the past summer. I like them for driving or when I am doing steady state cardio at the gym and do not need extra motivation in the way of music. I think Dave Asprey (genius behind this company) is an amazing guy and his interviews are totally varied and interesting. I recently enjoyed listening to Andy Hnillo who is a model/actor that dated from Adrian Maloof of Real Housewives fame. He was in an absolutely horrible car accident and discusses what he did to fully recover and how he lives his life today for optimal performance and to look his best. I “googled him” just like Isla Fisher in Confessions of a Shopaholic and he is quite easy on the eyes.
Sparkling Water – I have always liked sparkling water but I feel I am enjoying it even more lately. I do still drink a lot of water daily but sometimes you just need a flavor or a break from the usual fare. Sparking water is fizzy, commons in tons of flavors and has no sugar or chemicals. Hint, hint to all soda drinkers. Sparking water can be a great way to transition to a healthier beverage.
After typing this up I am realizing how random this list is…but I guess that’s part of the fun. I am off to go to yoga, and get a few errands completed.
