A goal without a plan is just a wish…Antoine de Saint-Exupery
Good morning! It is a shock to all of us, but the flip of the calendar already has us halfway through 2015. Yikes – where did the time go? I walked into 2015 with all guns blazing and had a lot list of habits and goals that I wanted to put into motion. There were actually a few too many in retrospect. I did not even remember them offhand. Something about meditating? Yes, that was on the list. A LOT of things were on the list. So I dug up my 2015 Goal Post and started to evaluate how I am doing. Read on for some details!
2015 Goal Post Update
I like to break my goals into categories:
Wellness FX Panel
I have wanted to get my bloodwork done through Wellness FX for a while now. The package I am interested in is a little pricey. I intentionally put it on the back burner to concentrate on some other expenses. However, it is still definitely on my radar and I would like to get it done by the end of the year. If not, I will do it at some point. No big deal.
Sadly, I think I have meditated once. Maybe twice now? I find that it makes my mind race and I just do not really enjoy it. Of course, I was looking to do it for a health benefit and “enjoying” it was not necessarily the number one reason here. I am going to give myself a pass on this one and set my new goal to meditate a few times a week. Daily? Geez, what was I thinking?
Daily Gratitude Practice
I am not as consistent with a gratitude journal as I once was a few years ago. However, it is my daily intention to simply have a more grateful heart to shift my way of thinking. It is work to have a good attitude and handle the stuff life throws in our way. I have been really making a consisted effort here and I do notice a difference. Little things are bothering me less, and I feel a little more at peace.
I had some pretty big goals here too. They are listed below:
- Perform One Full Push
- Perform a Full Pull-Up
- Squat with my Bodyweight
- Deadlift 1.5 x my Bodyweight
- Learn to Clean & Jerk
- Run a 7 minute mile
The one I have managed to do so far is to squat my bodyweight. I have been concentrating a lot on squats so that was definitely significant. The others are at a “work in development” stage.
My goal was to practice 1-2 times a week and be able to master certain positions. Again, the theme for my goals here was getting stronger in 2015.
- Attend Class 1-2 times weekly
- Perform 1 Handstand (on the wall)
- Perform a Full Wheel
The “habit” is there since I have been going to yoga class 1-2 times a week and have started to take advantage of online options. I have also performed a full wheel which was totally exhilarating! That pesky handstand is slow to develop.
I am making yoga more part of my lifestyle that seeing it as a “workout” if that makes any sense. Will yoga for chocolate -watch out!
These were various habits and practices that I wanted to incorporate into my daily life.
Have a weekly date night with Scott
It took a while, but now we consistently set aside Saturday nights to have a date which has been really nice.
Read two books monthly
It is more like one, but I think I am content with that amount for right now. I read a ton of articles and blogs online so a girl can only do so much!
Consistently get 8 hours of sleep each night
So I am not sure what happened, but I went from getting just under 7 hours of sleep to well over 8. It was out of hand, and more than an adult female should need! Right now I am in a good spot with about 7.5 to 8 hours.
Obtain my CPT through the NSCA
Done! You can read more about my experience studying and passing the exam here.
Obtain an additional certification
I am not sure about this one. I earned my certification from Precision Nutrition last year and did my CPT a few months ago. So I am a little on the fence as to whether or not I want to dedicate the time or the funds towards another one right now. We shall see!
As I shared a few weeks ago, I completely lost my blogging momentum while I was working at the gym. The stressful environment and the sporadic hours took a toll on me. I am happy to be back to blogging more regularly, but I am also putting less pressure on myself about it. The focus is to connect with you guys, and enjoy my writing! No crazy late night blogging slumped on the kitchen counter.
I also am almost done with the e-book I am working on that I will be giving as a gift to anyone who signs up for my newsletter. I am editing through the pictures right now, and have to figure out that whole email service thing. It is like kind of complicated (to me anyway).
So there is my 2015 Goal Post Update. There is a mixed bag of success, and certain areas where a more gentle approach was needed. If you have any desire to re-visit your goals or resolutions for the year I would encourage you to celebrate your triumphs. As long as you are moving forward…well, then you are going in the right direction. 🙂
Question of the Day:
- Do you revisit your goals for the year?
- How is your progress going?
